The General Coordinator for Timor-Leste in the 2010 Shangai-China Expo has left for China with the Arte Moris artists, in order to start the construction of Timor-Leste’s pavilion, a few weeks before the World Exposition opens its doors to the World.

“These pieces of arte – Tais, sculptures, amongst others – are a small sample of what exists in the country and are representative of Timor-Leste’s society and culture. It was all produced by Arte Moris expressly for this exposition and the whole pavilion was conceived in just 4 months”, as Glória de Castro, from Timor-Leste’s Secretariat for the 2010 Shanghai-China Expo, explained to the Government Portal.

However, one of the Pavilion’s main attractions is the exhibit of a 20 minute film showing a day in Timor-Leste. “When this idea appeared, the difficulty of translation was taken into account, particularly into mandarin, but the idea was to show the magnitude and greatness of this young nation. The Commissariat opted to develop a theme that shows the world a characteristic always associated to it: the rising sun in the morning….day-break in Timor-Leste!” Glória de Castro added.

Through this film, it is intended that the visitors become, on one hand, a little bit more knowledgeable of what Timor-Leste is, and on the other hand, feel attracted and have the urge to visit the country.

For the Timorese, Glória de Castro sets a challenge: “within the availability and possibilities of each one (of the Timorese families and youngsters), I suggest to whomever can to visit the 2010 Shanghai-China Expo because it is a unique experience. Since Timor-Leste is in a Nation-building period, this is an opportunity to open up to new horizons, to plenitude, new ideas and dreams! We are at a decisive point and Timor-Leste and the Timorese will benefit immensely if they are prepared and we plan our projects correctly”.
