From May 1st to October 31st 2010, Shanghai will welcome the Expo of this year under the theme “Better City, Better Life” which reflects the common desire of the humanity of a better life in the future urban facilities interacting with the urban and industrial facilities.

The innovation and interaction focus would allow to discover the potentiality of urban life and at the same time to empower the dialogue among cultures.

The 2010 Shanghai EXPO will be participated for the first time by Timor-Leste as an independent nation. The participation of Timor-Leste in a World Expo assumes the importance and international confirmation, that permits a great cultural exchange, the strengthening of the cooperation among peoples for development, promotion the international solidarity and the respect for the different cultural identities, the incentive for the investigation and scientific and technical development and, in general, for the acknowledgment of universal dimension.

It is expected to have about 70 million of guests and 200 participants among others Timor- Leste would be one of those participants with the slogan “Be with us, be with nature”.

It has been established a commissariat assigned to organize and coordinate the activities of Timor-Leste in the event. Agio Pereira, the Secretary of State for the Council of the Ministers, has been appointed as General-Commissioner assisted by the Secretary of State for Youth and Sport, Miguel Manetelu, and by the Secretary of State for Culture Virgílio Smith.

The production and the execution of the pieces and models for the scenario of the pavilion would be under the responsibility of the artists and craftsmen led by ARTE MORIS and will be involved 200 timoreses, with technical assistance for edition and production of films, brochures and other promotional publications of the country. The clothes for the pavilion’s assistants will be under the responsibility of Nelson Léon, a Timorese fashion designer, that uses accessories of maubere culture in ornaments.
