You're reading: Bondage Fairies and DJ Whistla take the stage

Named after a Japanese graphic novel, Swedish band Bondage Fairies will perform onstage at Khlib Club this weekend.

Founded in 2001, the band consists of two characters who call themselves Elvis Creep (lead vocals, guitar, and synthesizer) and Deus Deceptor (vocals, bass, and synthesizer). They play so-called “nintendo-death-punk,” and usually appear on stage wearing masks (they don’t even have their pictures taken without them) inspired by Japanese robots. The duo released two albums and two singles to date, the latest being this year’s “Cheap Italian Wine.” The Bondage Fairies concert will be followed by a set of DJ Whistla – the main man behind British dubstep radio station Sub. FM. The station became the core of the dubstep movement, having gathered all of the talented deejays playing dubstep – both veterans and newcomers. Whistla, himself, has been playing as deejay since the mid-1990s. His most recent favorite style is “future garage” – deep atmospheric music rooted in dubstep.
