About Strawberry Daiquiri

Of all the fun fair-weather drinks, it’s hard to find a more classic beverage than the daiquiri. And in the realm of daiquiris, none are quite as popular or as pretty as the strawberry daiquiri.

Between the vibrant red color and the classic sweet taste, there’s a good reason why all the good outdoor parties have someone manning a blender and a bowl of strawberries. A good drink can make or break a party and the strawberry daiquiri is never one to disappoint.

Plus, my favorite daiquiri recipe requires no ice to make, so there’s no need to worry about the taste and texture of the drink changing as you sip.

And besides, who wants to babysit the status of their drink while they’re trying to enjoy the nice weather. With a properly made daiquiri (like this one) you can do both!

What alcohol is in a strawberry daiquiri?

For the daiquiri purist, rum is the chosen alcohol for this drink. It’s the combination of rum and lime that create the trademark for a daiquiri, so without rum, it’s “technically” not a daiquiri.

However, if you’re craving a fruity drink and don’t have any rum on hand, any clear and unflavored alcohol (like vodka) should do the trick in a pinch.

What kind of rum do you use for a strawberry daiquiri?

I’m always a little hesitant to give brand recommendations on alcohol, but in this case, there are a few “classic” rums you can seek out for a daiquiri. Such as:

  • Bacardi – Sold almost anywhere and has a reasonable price point for the bottle size.
  • Flor de Caña – Similiar in price to Bacardi, but might be a tad harder to find.
  • Cana Brava – A little more expensive than the previous two, but tends to show up on bartender-favorite lists.

What’s in a frozen strawberry daiquiri?

As mentioned above, the two key ingredients for a proper daiquiri are rum and lime juice. Beyond that, you can get creative with the fruits and flavors, but personally, I like to keep things simple.

This particular recipe gets its flavor from frozen strawberries (which also make this drink slushy, so no need to worry about ice melting) and a sweetener of your choice (sugar, simple syrup, agave, etc).

Notes & tips for this daiquiri recipe

  • You’ll need a trusty food processor for this recipe. I bought the Ninja Blender System almost 10 years ago and it hasn’t failed me yet!
