Chris Evans nearly made it into Deadpool 2... nearly

Chris Evans almost appeared in Deadpool 2, but not in his usual Marvel role as Captain America.

In a new interview, writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick said that they considered including Chris Evans as The Human Torch in the superhero blockbuster.

You might not remember, but Evans made his superhero debut as Johnny Storm in 2005’s poorly-reviewed Fantastic Four. But he’s managed to wipe all memory of the role from his CV.

The Hollywood heavyweight eventually made a comeback as Steve Rogers in the current MCU, with 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger his first appearance.

But now Reese and Wernick have revealed their original plans to include Storm in the X-Force interviews conducted during Deadpool 2.

The film sees Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson form the superhero group The X-Force, after canvassing a number of potential recruits.

‘We never got that far [to ask Evans],’ said Reese and Wernick in an interview with Uproxx.

‘Someone had the idea we actually did and we thought that was better. But we definitely had a lot more X-Force interviews with bizarre, random people coming in to interview.’

Promo for the latest Marvel instalment has been all-pervasive. High-profile stunts have included surprise appearances on Korean TV, sweary TV spots and an unannounced takeover of Manchester United football ground Old Trafford.

Deadpool even gatecrashed Stephen Colbert’s opening monologue on his chat show to hit out at Donald Trump.

‘Hello, I’m Stephen Colbert and I’m legally blind,’ Deadpool said after stealing Colbert’s glasses.

‘I’ll tell you who should not be on your show: Ryan Reynolds, huge asshole,’ he quipped.

Deadpool followed the gag up with a jibe about Donald Trump’s recent controversial decision to pull out of the Iran nuclear deal, saying: ‘It’s Trump’s biggest pulling out blunder since Eric.’

Well, he’s not wrong. Is he?
