Who needs a pot of gold when the rainbow’s this rich?
On Tuesday, Cardi B posted Instagram photos of her 3-year-old daughter Kulture dripping in diamonds — including a Minnie Mouse-themed necklace, blinged-out watch and an armful of sparkling bracelets.
However, the ultimate accessory was her new yellow Hermès Birkin bag, which was covered with thousands of Swarovski crystals in the shape of a rainbow.
But Michelle Berk, CEO of Privé Porter, told Page Six Style that the inspiration for the customized creation came from a much more affordable place.
“Cardi and Kulture were at Claire’s, of all places,” she said. “Kulture saw a small bag with a rainbow and started begging for it.”
Continued Berk, “In typical Cardi way, she didn’t get that bag, but she called me instead to try to replicate that rainbow on a Birkin for Kulture.”
Berk went back and forth with Cardi for weeks to perfect the design, which required more than 30,000 colorful crystals in varying sizes, along with 100 hours of work to place them all.
The price for Kulture’s new rainbow-bedazzled Birkin? A cool $48,000, thanks to the added cost of customization.
“The Birkin is getting so big — so many women are finally getting one — that our biggest collectors are coming to us to create something that no one else has. It’s that simple,” Berk told us, explaining why celebs like Paris Hilton and Jeffree Star flock to Privé Porter for blinged-out Birkins.
The luxury handbag dealer actually struggles to keep up with demand, but Berk said her customers “happily wait” to get their hands on their personalized purses, even when they can’t get an exact time estimate.
With Cardi expecting her second child with husband Offset, perhaps the “Migos” rapper has already started thinking about a push present.
