Michelle Yeoh opted for a new 'do at the Met Gala 2024!

The Academy Award winner, 61, showed off a new, short bob while attending the annual event on Monday, May 6. Themed "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion," Yeoh decided to wake spectators up with a whole new look.

Yeoh, who fans are used to seeing with lengthier hair, paired her new hairstyle with a silver dress resembling tin foil. And as she spoke to PEOPLE at the event, she described her new hairstyle as "very different."

"This is my new look," Yeoh says. "Working with Demna [creative director of Balenciaga], it's the whole [look]. It's not just a dress. It's the jewelry, it's the hair, it's the makeup. So we all went through the process."

As for the dress itself, Yeoh explains how Demna was inspired to put the look together.

"Well this dress is inspiration from Demna. Actually, he said it was something he did when he was a young child, playing with tin foil and making dresses on his sister's toys," she says.

She adds: "And today it seemed like it came full circle. I have reawakened his childhood memories."

While her dress may have some fooled, Yeoh adds that the look is indeed not made of foil. "No it's not, but the fabric feels like it is," Yeoh says. "You can mold it. You press it and it feels like it's frozen in time."

Yeoh is no stranger to the Met Gala. She attended last year's event in a tuxedo-style ball gown by Karl Lagerfeld Couture, which she paired with a pair of platform leather boots adorned with a buckle detail at the "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty" event.

It's been a major few days for the Everything Everywhere All at Once star. Just last week, Yeoh accepted the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Joe Biden. During his brief remarks on Friday, May 3, Biden applauded Yeoh for shattering "stereotypes and glass ceilings" during her career to "enrich and enhance American culture."

Biden said at the time that Yeoh "bridges cultures, not only to entertain, but also inspire and open hearts," before adding: "And that's what she keeps doing."
