Arjen Robben jokes about his play style as he prepares for first coaching role of his son’s side

After ending his career with Bayern Munich last year, Arjen Robben has been unable to switch off from football as he gears up for his first test as a coach, and a new one as a dad.

The 35-year old ended his playing career by winning his eighth Bundesliga title, but now faces the task of coaching his youngest son, Kai, and his team-mates.

Robben won eight Bundesliga titles with Bayern, two Premier League titles with Chelsea and one LaLiga crown with Real Madrid as well as a Dutch title with PSV

If there is one thing anyone can learn from Robben, it is the ability to drive in from the right hand side and unleash unstoppable shots with his wand of a left foot - an attribute he built his career around and was devastatingly effective with.

And he joked his son's team will have a familiar feel when he is on the touchline. "They already know what the training plan is - cut in from the right and shoot with the left," he said when discussing his next step.

Why not? Whether playing for Chelsea, Real Madrid or Bayern Munich, no one has been able to stop him.

Almost every defender he faced would know what he was going to do - you didn't need to watch many clips before a match to work that out.

Robben played under some of the best coaches in the world and will have picked up a thing or two from Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola, but cites the Manchester City boss as his favourite.

"When Pep came [to Bayern], I was already 30 years old.

"You're just trying to stay constant and not get any worse. But under him I got better again.

"Since I suddenly played in different positions, where I never thought that I would play there once. He was the best."

By the time of his retirement last season, Robben had scored 209 goals in his career and a high percentage will undoubtedly have come from his incredible close control and shooting.

Which ever side faces his son's team is on for a torrid Sunday morning this season.
