Sony’s current lineup of current-generation consoles features the PlayStation 5 Disc and Non-Disc variants. As expected, the company is working on some current-gen upgrades, such as the PS5 Slim and the PS5 Pro. But in recent events, a new piece of Sony gaming hardware is in the works. Could it be the Sony PSP 2?
Is New Sony Hardware In The Works – Sony PSP 2?
Tom Henderson reported it during a live stream (13:15) that Sony is currently working on the Sony PS5 Slim and PS5 Pro. But Sony is currently working on a different piece of hardware that would be announced before we get a sneak peek at the PS5 Pro.
Since we’ve already got out hands on the Sony PSVR2, and its controllers, we’re already gearing up for the PS5 Pro and Slim. What else is left for Sony to work on? If our speculation is correct, we might just get our hands on a Sony PSP 2 or a new portable iteration in Sony’s current line-up.
The Sony PSP was released back in December 2004 in Japan and in 2005 in North America. While its first addition of titles consisted of some fun indie Japanese titles, things kicked up a notch when some major releases made their way to the PSP in the coming years.
Later, we got our hands on the Sony PSP GO, a slimmer iteration of the PSP without the inclusion of a UMD drive. It was released in October 2009. Later in February 2012, we got our hands on the next-generation PSVita.
But owing to expensive and proprietary SD cards, the lack of any decent next-gen titles, and the absence of PS3 or PS2 ports of any notable games, the PSVita started fading out of existence. But there’s still a community of modders and home-brew enthusiasts still tinkering with the PSVita and PSP to this day.
After a decade of silence, do you still think we might be getting a new portable Sony console, a PSP 2? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below. Stay tuned for more updates on the NerdStash.
