OLD GOA: Parishioners of the state’s former capital prayed in a special way for the workers who had toiled to build the Se Cathedral, the Mother Church of the Goa archdiocese, and, up until some years ago, the largest cathedral in Asia.
They were reliving a centuries-old tradition of commemorating Cathedral Day, on Tuesday evening. Parish priest Fr Alfred Vaz celebrated the Holy Mass to commemorate the event.

The cathedral, which stands barely 300 to 400 metres north of another iconic monument—the Bom Jesus Basilica—is also referred to as the Archbishop’s Church. Its construction commenced in 1562 and was completed almost six decades later.
