How many times have you noticed that loop at the back of your shirt and forgotten about it eventually? Well, we do it all the time, but it’ll surprise you to heaps if we tell you it’s there for a reason, a rather surprising one!
Men’s fashion might have evolved greatly, but that loop has stayed on the shirt since the 1960s and here’s why:

Legend has it that these loops were designed for East Coast sailors to hang their clothes on a wire line to dry instead of hangers.
What’s more, these loops saved the shirt from getting wrinkles and the sailors could wear the shirt again the next day!
Apparently, the trend spread from the seas and found a place in cities and took a universal shape when US started making Oxford button down shirts in the 1960s. What followed was men using the loops to hang their shirts in the gym lockers.

Called locker loops back then, the loops have now become a regular feature on shirts worldwide, but strangely not many of us use them for the purpose they were created for.
