Corjuem Fort is a lesser-known fort located in the northern part of Goa, India. Perched upon an island on the Mapusa River, it is situated near the village of Aldona in the sub-district of Bardez. The fort offers panoramic views of the surrounding river and lush countryside, making it a picturesque location for visitors. Built-in 1705 by the Portuguese, the fortress was strategically important because of its position controlling the river route. The architectural style is predominantly Portuguese with thick laterite walls and a small chapel inside dedicated to St. Anthony. Unlike many forts, Corjuem Fort is not very large, and its compact size allows for a more intimate exploration of its ramparts and the stories associated with it. This historical landmark also tells the story of the legendary woman soldier Ursula e Lancastre who, aspiring to be a knight, disguised herself as a man and traveled far and wide before being discovered in Goa.
