Bring Back Mana Burn For Disc As A PVP Talent

Seriously.

I played WoW from Vanillia to Wrath where I mained a warrior and rogue until Wrath. Maybe Manaburn was gone by then or maybe it was just not all that effective on hunters I can’t say.

But I got back into WoW during Legion and eventually fell madly in love with Priest. I of course rolled one for Classic to see how it was back when and man oh man, where has this spell been all my life?

I’d say for Live negate it’s DPS potential outright and give it a mana cost similar to Shadow Mend. I feel like in PVP my rivals, Holy Paladins and Resto Druids, are so damn annoying as they never seem to bankrupt their mana economy.

Adding an ability wherein I could destabilise theirs at a not insubstantial cost to my own seems like it’d not just level things but also add an additional level of tactical thought.

Yea mana burn is sooooo fun on really anyone with a mana pool.

I remember mana burn. If i remember correctly the problem with it from a balance stand point was it either does nothing (against players with a big mana pool or good regen mechanic)

OR…

its a effectively a permanent silence.

there is no in between. Its not like dealing damage where there are gradiations of effectiveness (Maybe you blow some one up and they’re just dead with no chance, maybe you tickle some body and you have no chance maybe you do Juuuuuust enough damage for your teammates to finish them off.)

With Mana Burn either you burn them down to zero and they’re screwed orv you b don’t and now your screwed.

This is why I suggested it be switched to something along the lines of Shadowmend.

It’d be a hefty mana cost to spam away their mana, likely leaving you both functionally useless. So it’d add an additional level of tactical thought when enganging an enemy healer. And indeed make fighting a Disc Priest a more delicate dance.

I don’t have a strong opinion one way or the other i was just reporting to the best of my knowledge, the developers stance on the spells balancing.

IMO i don’t necessarily see the appeal trading all of my mana for another players. Having a spell that makes us both useless like you say doesn’t sound so fun.

I remember a suggestion long ago that “mana burn” be a debuff or a DoT that does damage based on how much mana the target is using/ missing.

i thought that sounded cool for the following reasons:

A. Plays up the “BURN” aspect of it more and is more in line with DoT nature of priest damage.

B. Also more in line with the fantasy of priests sort of punishing ppl for their own wicked actions.

C. From a gameplay perspective it could have that sort of “fun dance” aspect you’re looking for in a priest, where mages, locks, healers and mana users in general would have to more carefully manage their mana use or face a heavy punishment.
