Give aff lock a mana drain talent

A lot of aff locks complain about the lack of execution aff locks bring. They do tons of passive rot damage without doing much. Aff lock oom healers faster than any other class. I think giving aff locks a talent that drains mana could fit in well with the class design to end games faster.

Priests used to have Mana Burn but they took that out after the waves of PVP complaints with “mana burn” teams and such. I know I abused the hell out of it back in WOLK.

Still an annoying dungeon mechanic when they do BC timewalking though :stuck_out_tongue:

Baking it into UA dispel seems alright

This. A much nastier penalty then some damage a HOT can take care of. Me likey.

Isn’t Afflictions biggest issue right now just melee specs training on them and ignoring RoT damage? Like Warriors and DKs?
Mana burn does nothing for us in that department.

Affliction Warlock is about DoT and endurance. I don’t see how faster games is fitting.

I play a DPS spec because I want to DPS.
Reason why I quit Mage is because I was tired of having to be the Poly Bot.
If you give us a Drain Mana then we’re just utility. I don’t want to be utility. I don’t want to be support. I want to spend my GCDs dealing damage.

In what xpac did they remove warlocks drain mana spell? I can’t remember.

I play with a lot of warlocks and I been healing warlocks specifically affliction since Shadowlands. I can’t tell you the amount of times I watched a warlock cast/juke with port available to use. They get kicked during crucial times. They do not port when their healer is in cc. My favorite is when a warlock’s healer is in a cc chain and they wait till the chain is over to port effectively cc’ing their own healer by trying to line the enemy team. Warlocks need to try to understand when they can be damage sponges and when they need to avoid damage.

Theirs 3 different specializations for warlock. Affliction with a mana burn talent makes so much sense. Affliction to me has always been a ‘play not to lose’ spec. Compared demo warlock, demo to me has been a ‘play to win end now’ with their execution capabilities. Destro is also a play to win

It would be OP as hell but imagine a drain that would not only do mana but rage, energy, focus, runic power.

Will never happen unless on a major CD but I can still live the fever dream :stuck_out_tongue:

End of wrath/start of cata

Nah it’s more that it’s GCD starved and rot playstyle/damp playstyle in a somewhat-burst meta.

The sound effect of Mana Burn still sends chills up my spine. Once you hear it, your brain instantly snaps to “Gotta find that priest and kill it fast”.

I was also going to mention that too. Increasing the percentage resource recharge rate would interesting.

If affliction warlocks don’t like the idea of another button we can make it passive. Something like " when applying agony to the target the mana usage (resource recharge) is depleted by an extra 5%."

What?! Are you OOMing with Affliction?!

No we really don’t want to suck up their mana and add it to ours. Just deplete theirs (a la mana burn). Or like someone else mentioned having a nasty mana hit as a penalty for dispelling UA would be more of a counter than easily healable damage.

Sounds like a nice curse idea. Makes resource regen slower and if dispelled they take a major resource hit.

Still doubt it would ever be a thing but I’d get behind that idea.

YES~ THIS will actually make healers think twice about dispelling it.

Locks used to have drain mana in tbc i believe. But cant really remember that far back.

No, they didn’t drain mana, they converted health to mana. The ratio favoured the mana though not that that mattered when in a dungeon or raid.

That was Life Tap, but you’re forgetting there was also a channeled warlock spell called Drain Mana. It was a fuzzy blue laser channel.
Also, hunters had a sting shot that drained mana, and then last but not least there was the priest class with Mana Burn, complete with a chilling spell audio.

They already do burn mana …with they pad aoe opressive damage.
Problem us that healers can top ppl and keep them alive even without mana…as shown in awc.

Didn’t demon hunters have a mana drain recently? Like last expansion as a PvP talent?

Edit: found it
