Mana Burn got so much hate because Viper Sting and Mana Drain were removed, so it was the only one, kinda like Mana Rift now. Mana Drain was stupid though because it was a channel that went through LoS.

ferals also had basically the same thing attached to their skull bash atleast during cata

What no mana burn was horrible in BC it created the most toxic playstyle if people actually had been capable and abused its potential you would’ve seen an endless sea of complaint threads chastising disc/SL lock/hunter for burning ever healer’s mana to 0 within 45 seconds of gates opening.

Well mana was used instead of dampening for the most part. So mana burn stopped matches from running too long.

Mana burn in TBC had a cast time and a decent mana cost. Viper sting was semi-dispellable. Drain mana had a cast time, and was dispellable. Druids could bear form to avoid drains completely

Perhaps the most annoying thing about mana rift is that it’s nearly unavoidable unless you can break the stun

mana burn created toxic matches in pvp

priests would do almost nothing else, which meant the ability was vastly overpowered against other healers and it was completely onesided as no other healer could do anything remotely as effective

i don’t have any problem with it in pve, it should be allowed as a pve only ability but honestly its pretty pointless in pve
