This was a surprise for my husband who still has his Gibson that he played for many, years starting in 1964. He really loved the book and has spent a lot of time reading up on the history of his guitar! He has a very young friend who has been learning to play so I'm sure he'll pass the book on to him so he can appreciate it's past.

To have an entire book written about a specific type of guitar, that guitar type must be really something, and the Gibson ES-335 has proven worthy over the many years since its introduction. The author covers various aspects of the ES-335 from its origin, construction, parts, versions, copies, and players. Since I bought a new Gibson ES-335 back in 1980, I can understand what makes this instrument so appealing to so many musicians. It is a guitar that can produce great sounds in a variety of styles. As a blues/R&B/soul music fan, I wanted a sound that I heard on many a record at the time. As I checked out my kind of music, I found many players who were playing and recording with the ES-type of guitar. Most played Gibson ES-style guitars, but several played other brands that followed the Gibson prototype, such as: Epiphone (owned by Gibson), Guild, Gretsch, etc. The book mentions these other brands, including Heritage which was started by former Gibson employees in 1985 and which is still made in the original Gibson factory in Kalamazoo, MI. And yes, they are still making ES-335-style guitars with their H535 and H555 models two examples. Guitarists that play ES-type guitars who have inspired me over the years include: B.B. King, Jimmy Dawkins, Magic Sam, Freddie King, Eddie Clearwater, Little Milton, Lowell Fulson, Otis Rush, Jimmy Johnson, W.C. Clark, Luther Allison, Maurice John Vaughn, Walter "Wolfman" Washington, Rusty Zinn, Jim McCarty, and Del Shannon. The book includes many photos of ES-335 and other versions, along with the pros that play or played them. My only negative on the book is the author's inclusion of a few guitarists that were not true long-term ES-335 players, but only played the instrument for a relative short time.

A nicely put together book about the history of the ES-335 guitar while noting some popular musicians who have used or still use it. I like the sales figures and finishes put together for each year. I own an ES-335 so it's fun for me to read about how and why this model came to be.

Excellent book for 335 owners or someone interested in acquiring one of these fine instruments. Well organized, well written with good pictures of the guitar in its various guises and the folks who played it. It even lists significant knock-offs.

A "Must Read" for anyone wanting to know about the 335's intricacies and varieties.

The definitive book on the Gibson 335 and related guitars (e.g., the 355, 345, 330, etc.). Lots of black & white photos and original manufacturers ads and such, excellent descriptive details, and some color photos. A treasured gift for the 335 guitarist!

I belive someone made reference to a "scrapbook" which is pretty close to the truth. Doesn't have much of a flow, some models don't even get a mention, (I own three), and my impression was that alot of it was taken up by complaints from Gibson's various stages of ownership. That's relevant but feel it played too large a role in the narrative.

With a ten-year-old 335 on its way to me thru ebay, I looked forward to receiving this book. But it is a disappointment: a hodgepodge of stock photos, sidebar items, and material that bumps up the page count without telling us anything more about this particular model. Those of us with Gibsons made in the past 8 or 10 years won't find help in sorting out the many, confusing iterations of the later models.

Both layout and photo quality have a homemade look that's just not up to standard in this age of digital composition.

This was good fast read. It isn't a long book, but it does do a good job breaking down the differences the ES-335/345/355 have had through the years. This is a great book if you like knowing vintage guitar spec details.

4.0 out of 5 stars Only for 335 fans...

It is amazing that there is no comprehensive book on the 335, what with all the treatments of the Les Paul, Strat, SG and Tele's that abound.
There is still room for a more in depth look at these guitars and their evolution.
Don't get me wrong! i enjoyed it. But this can only whet your appetite. It does not leave you satiated, lying on the floor.
Price is right. Well illustrated.

Come sempre Amazon è stata impeccabile.
