A former member of the Portland Trail Blazers is back in the NBA, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

The Washington Wizards are signing center John Butler Jr. to a two-way NBA deal, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Butler spent part of last season in Portland and went to training camp with the Trail Blazers.

The Blazers signed Butler to a two-way deal this summer, but the team waived him on Saturday to make room for Justin Minaya, who made quite an impression during training camp. However, it didn’t take long for Butler to find new work as the Wizards inked him to a two-way deal.

Butler, who went undrafted in 2022 out of Florida State, played 19 games for the Blazers last season, averaging 2.4 points per game. Butler is expected to spend most of this upcoming season with the Capital City Go-Go, Washington’s G League affiliate.
