A 40-foot-long, two-ton sculpture dubbed “The Fish” made a splash in Hub waters yesterday, traveling by barge from the Boston Harbor Shipyard in East Boston to its new home at the Fan Pier Marina.

“The Fish,” designed by artist Steve Israel, founder and executive director of the nonprofit arts organization HarborArts Inc., is designed to promote environmental awareness and educate the public about issues affecting the quality of oceans and harbors.

Made of 400 feet of sheet metal and 1,800 feet of steel rods – among other materials – “The Fish” received a fin-tastic welcome from Joseph Fallon, president and CEO of Fan Pier developer The Fallon Company, upon its arrival.
