These looks aren't just bad; they're hard to look at for an extended period of time. The Academy Awards are generally an occasion for breath-taking ball gowns and exquisite designs, but these dresses fall short. From tacky to downright theatrical, let's discuss.
On paper, Charlize Theron wearing Christian Dior is a match made in heaven. However, that wasn't the case for the Dior darling at the 2010 Oscars— just look at that unflattering satin gown, and let's not even start on those tacky bodice swirls. But hey, at least the girl tried to look cutting edge… unlike Björk. The Icelandic singer-songwriter made worst dressed history in 2001, wearing a Marjan Pejoski swan dress (seriously?). Nope, it doesn't get any quirkier than that!
We'll give Cher a break, since she's always been one to dress for drama over fashion. But c'mon! Her 1998 Oscars ensemble didn't do the performer any favors. Even Kate Hudson missed the style mark once upon a time, attending her first Oscars in 2001 wearing an unflattering Stella McCartney design styled with over-the-top ringlets. And another red carpet worst surprise is Uma Thurman, who blew us away for all the wrong reasons in this bizarre Christian Lacroix design back in 2004.
