Édouard Vuillard, the Hessels and Louis Loucheur are all connected with this painting – i.e. the artist, his dealer and patron friends, and the minister who was a collector.

After appearing there in April 1928, this painting with its impeccable provenance is soon to grace the walls of the Hôtel Drouot again. Édouard Vuillard produced Vue des Pavillons vers la mer (View of the Sea from Les Pavillons) in 1910 in Criquebeuf, Normandy, when he was staying with the Hessels. The couple, Jos and Lucy, had numerous ties with the Nabi painter in terms of art, business, friendship and even love.…
