Today the Cabo de Rama fort stands tall in Canacona, Goa. The ancient structure has a great history accompanied by magnificent architecture. It was constructed under the aegis of the Hindus. Thus, it derives its name from the heroics of Lord Ram. Legend has it that Lord Ram, Goddess Sita, and Lord Lakshmana resided in this fort during 14 years of exile. In 1763 the Portuguese conquered the fort and used it as their military base. But it was converted to a prison in 1935 until it ceased to provide services in 1955.
The fort is located 54.3 km away from the Goa International Airport. From Margao, it is approximately 30 km away. It is at a distance of 61 km from Panjim. Ideally, renting a cab or traveling by car is preferred to capture the interiors of Goa.
The perks of visiting the fort during non-monsoon seasons are spellbinding. Moreover, the visitors are not charged any entry fees for exploring this fort. The historic monument perches between the stunning beaches Cavelossim and Agonda. The St. Antonio Church still prevails within the premises of the fort. The locals celebrate the annual feast with pomp and gusto.

1. From the fort, one can get a beautiful view of the Arabian sea. The evenings are a perfect time to witness the glorious sunset, enriching oneself with good vibes.
2. The beaches have many good restaurants and shacks. The visitors can satisfy their appetite by trying out various cuisines.
3. In the proximity of the fort, there are some budget-friendly resorts. One can extend the visit by checking into these resorts.
