CURTORIM: The feast of patron saint St Alex will be celebrated on July 19 (Sunday), at St Alex Church, Curtorim. The feast mass will be shown live on CCRTV at 9 am. Fr Blaise Lobo, assistant to the Parish Priest Fr Joseph Rowland Salema, will be the main celebrant.
The St Alex Church in Salcete was constructed in the year 1597 and was rebuilt in the year 1647. Earlier, this church was dedicated to Our Lady of Gaudalaupe, later in the year1815 the church was then dedicated to St Alex. The Church is also famous for Our Lady of Gaudalaupe feast, which is celebrated in December every year, also known as Kelleche Fest.
According to the Holy Scriptures, “St Alex, although being from an elite family, always lived a humble life. After renouncing all earthly wealth lived on alms like a beggar, first away from his country for 17 years and then in his own home town, where no one recognised him. He was proclaimed ‘Man of God’ while he was still living by Virgin Mary and God. St Alex witnessed Christ by his faith and humility.”
