Could Prince Harry Be Planning a "Surprise" Reconciliation With Prince William?

Here's why a royal expert thinks he might extend an "olive branch."

It's no secret that things have been rocky between Prince William and Prince Harry over the last few years. After Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle took a step back from royal duties and released a Netflix docuseries, William made it pretty clear that he didn't want anything to do with his younger brother.

However, ever since King Charles and Prince William's wife, Kate Middleton, revealed their cancer diagnoses, Harry has been reaching out to his family to offer support. In February, Prince Harry flew to the U.K. to visit his father, and last month, he publicly (and maybe even privately) sent well wishes to the Wales family. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may even visit with William and Middleton during their trip to the U.K. next month for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams said all of this could point to a reconciliation between the brothers. In fact, he wouldn't be shocked if Harry extended an "olive branch" to William.

"The best way of resolving the rift, if it is to be resolved, is to do it privately," he told The Sun. "With Catherine and the King’s illness — that is an enormous game changer even when there are deep family rifts."

"The two very senior members of the royal family are very, are seriously ill, and you can't really predict what's what's going to happen," he said before adding that the Sussexes' knack for springing "surprises" on the family, makes the reunion even that much more likely. However, Harry likely wouldn't initiate anything without Markle's approval.

"So, as I say, the Sussexes do spring surprises," he continued. "This has happened before, and you never know what might happen in the coming weeks or months. But I don't think Harry would do anything without Megan's consent."

"We simply don't know but the best way, obviously, of bridging this rift, if it is to be bridged, and it does make sense when you've got serious illness to consider," he concluded.

Last week, Middleton and William made headlines with a reported gesture that suggests that the reconciliation would be mutual. Royal expert Tom Quinn told The Mirror that Middleton and William actually encouraged Harry and Markle to bring along their two kids, Archie and Lilibet, when they travel across the pond in May. "William and Kate have suggested that Meghan and Harry bring the children and that the two couples and their families try to make up, but the suggestion is not leading anywhere so far," he said.
