Delicious dim sum in Seattle's Chinatown-International District | 2023's Best

Jade Garden wins Best Dim Sum in 2023's Best of Western Washington viewers poll. #k5evening

SEATTLE — Jade Garden has been feeding folks delicious dim sum and other Chinese specialties on the corner of 7th and S. King in Seattle's Chinatown-International District for years. The family owned restaurant just celebrated their 20th year in business in September of 2023.

"We do it old school," said manager Eric Chan, whose father owns and operates Jade Garden. "We work hard and we don't cut corners."

The place is bustling the minute it opens at 9 a.m., as it fills with people ordering specialties like jumbo prawn dumplings, shumai with pork, shrimp and black mushrooms (if you order one thing, order these) and that dim sum staple, BBQ pork buns. Here they come baked, steamed, or in tiny savory pie form, with a flaky crust. There are no carts here, but the steamers full of dumplings and buns come out fast, and steaming hot. It's all reasonably priced, and it's all delicious.

Dim sum means 'to touch the heart' in Chinese, as in this food is meant not to be a filling meal, but rather something to snack on with tea, and friends.

We surprised Chan with Jade Garden's Best of Western Washington win for Best Dim Sum and the crowd of regulars in the restaurant cheered his win.

"This is amazing! Wow thank you, thank you to everyone who supports us, 20 years of excellence! This means so much. Wow," Chan said. "That caught me off guard!"
