Cheryl Cole has confessed she "wasn't well in the head" and "went through hell" after she was fired from The US X Factor.

In a new interview the 31-year-old opened up about her personal struggles as her glittering showbiz career fell apart.

Here's what we learned from the popstar's chat with ELLE magazine...

Cheryl sends amazing texts

She f'in loves a good swear and she's pretty f'in good at it.

After being fired by Simon Cowell from her role on The X Factor US she sent him a furious text message.

Cheryl chirped: "F**k you, F**k Fox, F**k the orange and purple outfit. F**k the big hair. F**k the UK X Factor. F**k you all." Excellent.

She does like a good cry

Everything was making Cheryl a bit teary and emotional after she took a break away from the limelight.

On her birthday her Girls Aloud pals essentially hired a woman to dress as a mermaid which made her cry.

She went swimming with dolphins and it made her cry. Basically she could have done anything and would probably have cried.

But wouldn't go to rehab

It's no secret that some celebs fall victim to substance abuse while trying to deal with fame - but Cheryl insist that's just not her.

She says even at her lowest she wasn't turned to drink or drugs and didn't enter therapy.

"I've seen people drink and do drugs, and that was never going to be me," she said.

Plenty of LOLs

Despite being the biggest star in the country Cheryl didn't enjoy herself for an entire decade. Which is a bit dramatic.

At her party she had a barbecue and danced to stupid songs with her friends, she says "I laughed like I haven't laughed since I was 19."

A bit worrying but at least she's smiling again, right?

Turning 30 isn't so bad after all

Upon turning the big 3-0, Cheryl says she felt liberated and describes it as feeling "incredible".

Getting a bit poetic she said: "I felt like an old, wet raincoat was falling off my shoulders." D'aw.

Leave your opinions at the door

Say what you like and do what you want about Cheryl (not really) because she likes to forgive and forget.

She said: "I don't bear grudges. All that toxicity poisons you."

Insert the nail painting emoji here.

A fun way to get things done

When her career was falling apart, and her personal life wasn't much better, Cheryl penned a bucket list.

Not wanting to be cliché she called it her "f**k it list" and, yeah, well that's basically it but it sounds good doesn't it?

And lastly...

"I don’t give a f*ck what people think any more."
