Rescue Greyhound Seeing Snow for the First Time Melts Hearts: 'Adorable'

With temperatures dropping and a winter wonderland approaching, it's time to break out the snow boats and jackets for not only you but your pets, too.

TikTok user @chloetimms64 got her rescue dog prepared for the chill temperatures by dressing the greyhound with protective shoes, a sweater that covered his entire body, and a jacket. Thursday's TikTok clip shows the greyhound walking outside in the lightly snow-dusted yard. To say this dog was loving it would be an understatement. The caption reads: "When your rescue greyhound sees snow for the first time."

This greyhound couldn't get enough of it, even if it was only a light dusting. In absolutely no time at all, this dog was face-first in the snow, attempting to make what looked like greyhound snow angels.

It might have been his first time in the snow, but based on that wagging tail and hop, the greyhound will be back for more.

"Omg [oh my god] so adorable!" wrote one TikTok user, while another added: "Aw cute, funny, adorable!"

Winter Safety Tips

Not every dog enjoys the snow, but plenty of canines will have to face it at least once. That's why dog owners must be prepared and take the proper steps to keep their pets warm and safe.

Temperatures could drop drastically in the blink of an eye and, just as much of a shock it is to humans, it can be for dogs, too. The pet-food manufacturer Purina suggests gradually acclimating your dog to the cold weather; start with short sessions, slowly increasing the time.

Getting your dog to go to the bathroom in the snow can be a nightmare. They're freezing; you're freezing. It's not good for anyone. If that's the case in your house, try shoveling an area of grass that they can use right away.

Owners should not neglect a dog's exercise no matter how cold it might get. Once they get acclimated to the colder weather, continue walking them and letting them play outside. You can even make an agility course out of snow.

Finally, protect their paw pads and coats. Certain dog breeds such as greyhounds will need jackets because of their lean bodies and short fur, according to the American Kennel Club. Senior dogs should also wear coverings as they have a weaker immune system and heat regulation might decline with age.
