Stóragja and Grjótagjá
Grjótagjá north, Iceland - Polarsteps
First stop this morning was at Stóragjá, a fissure in the lava field, where groundwater or geothermal hot water creates underground pools. At Stóragjá the water in the cave pools is lukewarm at best (kind of cold for a hot spring). Next stop was at Grjótagjá, a similar type of geological crack in the lava field, this time with hot water (around 50°C, apparently this underground hot pool made an appearance in “Game of Thrones”).
