STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A message of encouragement and positivity can go a long way, especially during a global pandemic.

Patients of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital are currently accepting virtual Valentine’s Day cards from those interested in spreading love from a social distance. A form, available on StJude.org, allows online users to choose from a variety of card designs and relay a message to the young patients at the children’s hospital.

The artwork is designed and inspired by patients of St. Jude. Those who wish to send a card are asked to choose a design, type a message and send it. For those who can’t find the right words, there are multiple pre-written options.

Senders must provide their names -- and emails -- in order for the e-card to successfully process. Once the card has been sent, St. Jude provides users with the backstory of the child who will receive the card.

The mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of its founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family’s ability to pay.
