Bounce Card Conversation Starters (w ESL Mods)

The Bounce Cards should be used to help create discussion in the classroom. Instead of each student sharing their individual thought, the Bounce Cards engenders listening as well. Before stating their opinion or thought, they must acknowledge or reference the thought of someone before them, to make a more meaningful discussion.

There are plenty more sentence starters that can be used other than the ones I have on my worksheets, however, I find the three categories of starters to be crucial.

Included in this link are print-outs for the students with all three categories on one page in English, Spanish and Russian. I also have individual pages for each category that can be printed for the students or used to make three posters. The final piece of this product is little speech bubble posters that can be hung up around the room with different colors for each question category.

I usually start the year with the posters on the board, giving students the printed out version for their notebooks and using them actively until the students begin to utilize them on their own or makeup their own starters.
