Some holiday surprises are more welcome than others, and this week, parents of some students at a Connecticut high school received a particularly unwelcome surprise when they found out at the last minute that Ivanka Trump would be stopping by the school to meet with their kids. Rather than accepting the surprise with a smile, though, like you do when your aunt gives you yet another itchy homemade sweater, some of the parents took action: According to the Associated Press, a few of them booked it to the school and pulled their kids out of class to keep them from coming into contact with the first daughter.

Per AP, some parents at Norwalk Early College Academy at Norwalk High School were "troubled" that they weren't told about the visit from a senior White House adviser in advance. One parent, Karey Fitzgerald, spoke to local TV station News 12 Connecticut about the school's lack of communication, which some speculated may have been due to security concerns. "This should have been brought to our attention, although I do understand security reasons," she said. "I think we should have had the choice to send our child to school or keep them home."

Ivanka and IBM CEO Ginni Rometty were at Norwalk High School this week to meet with students in the Early College program, which was developed by IBM and allows high school students to earn their high school diploma and associate degree, while also developing technical skills, all by graduation, according to AP. Ivanka shared a few photos from the visit on her Facebook page on Monday. "It was an honor to meet so many bright and talented students!" she wrote.

This isn't the first time Ivanka has been met with boycotts and outrage due to her standing by her divisive father, working in his White House, and being generally complicit in his administration's polarizing decrees and alleged civil rights offenses. Since Donald Trump was elected president, activists have called for a boycott of the Ivanka Trump clothing line (which has faced its fair share of issues on its own). Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus officially cut ties with Ivanka's clothing and jewelry lines, respectively, earlier this year, and over the summer, tens of thousands of people signed a petition asking Macy's to drop the line as well.
