Maybe it was all those trips down memory lane for her “Used to Be Young” TikTok series tempting her to return to the dark side, but Miley Cyrus is officially back to brunette. The musician, who had been rocking a half-blonde, half-brunette style for much of 2023, took it back to her roots and debuted a dark, shiny espresso hue that's absolutely perfect for the beginning of fall.
Cyrus gave fans a glimpse at her new color on Instagram, posting a few pics of herself in a black coat, clutching a bright cherry red horse-bit Gucci clutch. “Congratulations on your beautiful debut show as creative director at Gucci,” Cyrus wrote, tagging the brand's new creative director, Sabato De Sarno, in her post. “Your stunning heart was shown in every stitch. I love you & am so proud. Now give me everything.” (Cyrus is an ambassador for the brand.)

The bag is cute, but it's Cyrus's hair that grabs your attention. Gone are any pops of pale blonde; Cyrus is completely back to brunette, even darker than the warm brown color she was known for in the early years of her career before bleaching it platinum blonde. This is chocolate brown, not caramel or honey. Cyrus did allude to closing one chapter of her life and career via the TikTok series, so perhaps this is a hint for what's to come!
Miley Cyrus's brunette doesn't come as a complete surprise; the star was talking about a dark dye job in late 2022, but her godmother, Dolly Parton, was not a fan of the idea. “I’ve never seen Dolly actually scared before,” Cyrus said on Today at the time. “She clutched her pearls, gasped, and went back, and she goes, ‘You can’t do that. You are me.’” Too late now — sorry, Dolly!
