Wondering what cocktail to make on a scorching day? Look no further than a fruity and vibrant strawberry daiquiri. The dark pink color of this drink practically screams girl's night. Plus, this grown-up slushie only has 4 ingredients: strawberries, rum, lime juice, and sugar. Simplicity at its best! A round of these fruity strawberry daiquiri would also be delightful for a backyard barbecue with a juicy grilled steak and herby green goddess potato salad.
What makes a strawberry daiquiri?
Whether served straight up or blended, the basic makeup of a daiquiri is rum, lime, and sugar. This recipe doubles up on the strawberries with fresh and frozen berries. Fresh sliced strawberries are combined with lime juice and sugar, creating a naturally deep red syrup. By blending the lime-macerated strawberries and rum with frozen strawberries, the natural sweetness of the fruit is the star without being watered down by ice. The resulting blended drink is vibrantly colored, incredibly fresh-tasting, and has a perfect slushie consistency.
Can you use other alcohol besides rum in a strawberry daiquiri?
While you can substitute the rum for any light alcohol like vodka, tequila, or gin, it will not be considered a daiquiri. A true dacquiri uses rum! (But go ahead and use what suits you!)
What kind of rum is best for a strawberry daiquiri?
Blended fruit daiquiris are generally made with mild-tasting light or white rums. There is no need to use a premium sipping rum or a deeply spiced rum as those flavors will either get lost in the fruit or clash with the bright flavors in the drink. Generally imported from Puerto Rico, a moderately priced white rum is perfect for a strawberry daiquiri.
Can you make a strawberry daiquiri without alcohol?
If any guest is choosing not to drink or if the kiddos want to get in on the paper umbrella action, this strawberry daiquiri can be made without the rum. Simply replace the rum with either limeade or lemon-lime soda for a sweet, virgin spin on the strawberry daiquiri. Add a few drops of rum extract for a nod to the traditional flavor.
