Yesterday I was inspired by Gene51 http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-305613-1.html
to make Bounce card. I made it from plasic box /it was bought with farmers cheese/ lid and piece of plastic. I have not spend 1 cent. It is working.

DIY is an un-American anti-Capitalist act of treachery. I will check with the church, but I think originality is one of the original sins...

sssssh... don't tell any one but DIY is one of my hidden talents. Keep up the evil work MMC.

Thank you for your information and your sense of humor. Unforunately DIY is not my only sin. I hope I will not destroy Capitalism. Did you post your DIY items? I would be glad to see them.

MMC,

From the photos, you included of the DIY device to soften direct flash, it appears to defeat the major benefit of an angled/reflected flash source.
Your device will reflect and soften light onto the subject, which has been shown in your sample photos.

In older versions of the flash reflector, the reflector was positioned above and behind the flash head, and parallel with the rear covers of the head. The flash head was then tilted 45 degrees down from vertical. The light from the flash head would be reflected off the device into the subject for proper illumination, and the flash light from the head would bounce off the ceiling and behind the subject to illuminate subject shadows.

Michael, thank you for your opinion. You are right that my device does not illuminate shadow behind my subject but it softens light. Using a ceiling for bouncing sometimes is not good idea if ceiling is not white or it is very high.

MMC,

I agree with your reply, and add that it is not always good to bounce off walls, either.

I thought you would agree, so I also thought you might consider a slight modification that would allow bouncing off the ceiling, and direct off the reflector. Changing the overhang of the reflective card and raising the reflector might allow for both. Adjusting the height, manually could work both ways, or providing a hinge on the 45 degree card could work.
