Its seaside resort

The Algarve is home to many beautiful beaches, one of which is undoubtedly the Praia da Falésia. At the foot of a cliff of white and ochre rocks, you can reach this long stretch of white sand via wooden steps. Let your eyes wander in the blue water that glistens in the sunlight and relax while listening to the sound of the waves. In a landscape of contrasting colours, you will feel tiny in front of the huge rocky cliffs. In the evening you can enjoy a beautiful sunset over the sea. The town's main beach is the Praia de Vilamoura, a fine sandy beach where you can relax under the shade of umbrellas. Near this beach is the casino, with over 500 slot machines and other gaming rooms. There are many bars and restaurants along the beaches, so don't hesitate to stop for a moment and sample some Portuguese cuisine.

The Algarve has some of the best golf courses around. Vilamoura was built in the 1980's as an elite golf centre, it is the ideal place for golfers to meet. The marina

Spend unforgettable moments at the Marina, one of the largest in Portugal. Pubs, cafes and ice-cream parlours, you will have the choice for your meal in front of the Vilamoura seascape. It is the ideal place to relax with family, friends or couples. There are many boat trips and cruises available from the port. The most popular is dolphin and whale watching. You can also visit the sea caves and hidden coves on a boat trip. At Vilamoura Watersports Centre, in addition to these activities, you can choose from a wide range of water sports such as water skiing and jet skiing.

The Roman Ruins of Cerro da Vila

The Roman Ruins of Cerro da Vila

Located just 5 minutes walk from the Marina you can visit the Roman Ruins of Cerro da Vila. This is one of the must-see places to visit in the Algarve! On this archaeological site you will find the remains of a Roman villa, where you can see the mosaics, the baths and the fountains. Once you have finished your visit, go to the museum. Go back in time and discover the objects on display, related to history, architecture and trade. Built more than 2000 years ago, it has been used by the Romans, Visigoths and Arabs through the ages. Objects related to the production of garum (fish) have been found, one of the most important trades that was held in this place.

  • Loulé
 
Known for its famous market, the town is a 20 minute drive from Vilamoura. Every year, this town hosts the Chocolate Week celebration, an original festival during which chocolate is showcased in all its forms. The fortress is one of the most impressive monuments in Loulé.

  • Faro
 
Faro is the capital of the Algarve and is a visit not to be missed! With its beaches and lighthouses, its historical monuments, its market and its churches, you have a wide choice of visits. Wander through the streets of the old town or treat yourself to an afternoon of shopping in the many boutiques in the town. You can reach Faro in less than half an hour. 
 
  • Albufeira
 
Albufeira also has beautiful beaches along the coast and a marina from which many excursions can be made. One of the highlights is Zoomarine, a water park and dolphinarium, where you can watch dolphins. At night, the streets are lively, especially on the Albufeira Strip with its bars and restaurants. The town can be reached in about 20 minutes from Vilamoura.
