Céline’s fashion shows generally draw a low-key, fashion insider crowd, but this morning at the brand’s Spring 2017 show there was a superstar on the front row alongside editors and buyers. Chinese pop star Faye Wong arrived sporting a sleek look from Céline's Resort 2016 collection to the delight of the paparazzi. In the States, Wong’s name may not be as well known as say, Mariah Carey or Céline Dion, but at home her record-breaking sales have earned her diva status many times over. Known for her hit albums as well as her appearances in Wong Kar-wai’s Chungking Express and 2046, Wong has found success in a variety of creative worlds, but this week it’s her impeccable style that has people talking.
Phoebe Philo’s followers are many, but few are as dedicated to Céline as Wong. A collector, avid fan, and occasional ambassador of the brand, Wong has consistently worn Céline to press appearances, premieres, and during her rare off-duty moments. Whether she’s posing for Vogue China’s cover in a Philo-designed blouse or digging out a piece of vintage to wear for a night out, Wong has a Céline ensemble for every occasion. Her presence at today’s show made for an unexpectedly glamorous Fashion Week moment.
