A Virginia photographer got this lunar halo shot. Turns out it was pretty rare.

Greg Redfern, a Virginia resident who blogs passionately about astronomy and astrophotography, thought he was seeing a double lunar halo earlier this week. At first glance, that’s what his photo seems to be showing — a slightly cloudy sky and two halos around the moon.

“I have never seen one like this in 5-plus decades of skywatching,” he told EarthSky. “Pretty amazing.”
