The new design, which has been produced by Team Sky's Performance Clothing Partner Castelli, has drawn inspiration from the white and blue jersey that the team used at the 2017 Tour de France

Team Sky were eager to move in a new direction with the design but wanted it to retain certain distinguishing features so their riders could remain recognisable in the peloton.

And so the line of the back of the jersey, which has been a feature of every Team Sky kit since their inception back in 2010, remains an integral part to the design.

The dashed 'data pattern' - which records every one of their victories - has also been updated to include the teams wins from this year.

Castelli, who have produced Team Sky's kit for the second year in a row, have also reintroduced the broad blue band across the middle of the jersey, which has been influenced from the team's original 2010 kit.

Victories from 2010-2016 are now in one place on the back of the jersey, with all the wins from the historic 2017 season represented by a pattern embedded within the blue band across the front of the new jersey.

Team Sky Principal Sir Dave Brailsford admitted he was ecstatic with the bold changes that were made and believes it could be their best ever design.

Michal Kwiatkowski also showed off the new kit which has reintroduced the blue band

Introducing the new Team Sky kit for 2018, he said: 'We initially changed to white jerseys for the Tour de France last summer, and it was the feedback from riders and the response from our fans that inspired us to go white for the 2018 season.

'Our ambition is for our riders to have the leading performance clothing in the peloton, and we believe that the 2018 kit is our best yet'.

Team Sky are the fifth WorldTour to unveil their kit for the 2018 season, after Movistar opted for light blue, Dimension Data stayed with white and green, EF Education First-Drapac changed to white and pink, and Lotto-Soudal remained largely the same.

The first chance to get a glimpse of all the riders donning their new kits will be at the People's Choice Classic, the prelude criterium to the Tour Down Under on January 14.
