Gilat Satellite Networks has won a new multi-million defense connectivity contract from an unnamed government cusotmer. Gilat’s SkyEdge IV platform and Taurus-M modems will be augmenting the advanced satellite communications capabilities for a leading governmental defense organization. Gilat announced the deal Feb. 1.

SkyEdge IV is Gilat’s next generation multi-service platform built to work in harmony with multi-orbit software-defined satellite constellations. It supports cloud infrastructure and an Elastix-Access Scheme to address the current and future needs for satellite connectivity with the ability to support large and scalable networks. It is specifically designed for military and government markets and compliant with MIL-STD-810 standards. It aims to be fast-to-deploy, easy-to-operate, ruggedized modem that offers highly available, high-speed satellite communications for stationary and on-the-move operations.

“Gilat has identified the defense segment as one of its main growth engines and this program is one of many Gilat is targeting with its leading product portfolio aimed at this segment. Gilat’s SkyEdge IV platform and Taurus-M modems are addressing the market demands for rugged, high-performance equipment for mobile satellite communications,” Ori Naor, Gilat’s vice president of Sales and Business Development for Defense, said in a statement.
