Gilat Passes Major Milestone for LTE Backhaul Solution

[Via Satellite 06-19-2014] Gilat Satellite Networks completed testing for its SkyEdge 2C Capricorn LTE backhauling solution on Thaicom’s Ipstar satellite. Capricorn is a Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) Very-Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) solution, and allows mobile network operators to deploy LTE sites at speeds comparable to terrestrial links. The solution can expand coverage where no fiber exists, or provide temporary connectivity until fiber is deployed.

“We see the growth of LTE as a great opportunity for us with the Capricorn,” said Erez Antebi, CEO of Gilat. “LTE backhaul requires extremely high rates, together with bandwidth sharing, to reduce operational costs, and we can provide this today.”
